Boy oh boy, it sure seems like the "dead of winter" isn't what it used to be… I mean, where's the snow? The bitter cold? The freezing winds? Not that I'm complaining mind you, I just figure if it's not gonna at least snow like it's supposed to, Mother Nature might as well warm things up and dry us all out a bit! But I digress…
Prior commitments kept me from attending, but I hear that Jim Hoover from PVI Industries gave an excellent presentation on recent developments in domestic water heating technology. Many thanks to Jim for the great presentation, and also to Ken Roberts for putting us in touch with Jim! Ken also sponsored last month's tabletop, and for that we're grateful as well!
This month, Drew Slocum from Tyco Fire Products will be giving a presentation on dry sprinkler design; Tyco will also be sponsoring this month's tabletop.
Locally, the Times Union is reporting that at least six cases of Legionnaires Disease have been confirmed as originating at the Best Western Sovereign Hotel on Western Avenue in Albany between September and December of last year. The county health department is reportedly overseeing the hotel's remediation of the problem, which includes superheating and flushing of the system. The same article claims that a state employee staying at the Comfort Inn in East Greenbush also became ill with Legionnaires in January of last year. She's filed suit against the hotel for not informing her of the problem in their water system, which she claims was actually uncovered the month before her stay. Legionnaires - It's not just for hospitals anymore…
